Introduction: These days, cytostatic therapy is one of the most common ways to treat cancer. This type of treatment is very exhausting for patients and can undermine their quality of life and functional ability. Procedures: For the preparation of the final paper, the data used were collected by searching the literature in scientific databases: SCOPUS, MEDLINE, EMBASA, HRČAK, and nursing articles and books. The articles used in this paper are mostly published in the last 5 years. Topic review: The specifics of nursing care in patients on cytostatic therapy depend on each affected individual. Patients on cytostatics may experience difficulties such as alopecia, nausea and vomiting, constipation and diarrhea, pain and fatigue. Nursing requires access to the patient as a whole being in order to collect the necessary data to define nursing diagnosis, after which a goal and a plan are set on the basis of which the necessary and appropriate interventions will be carried out. One of the most important tasks of a nurse is certainly to conduct psychological preparation of patients before the therapeutic procedure, to conduct education on cytostatics and their side effects and to provide support to the patient. The quality of life of patients on cytostatic treatment is severely impaired and can lead to social isolation, development of eating disorders, depression and anxiety, fear. Conclusion: Cytostatic therapy in patients can cause various difficulties in their daily functioning. For these reasons, the oncology nurse has a key role in the implementation of the patient's health care because she has the professional knowledge, developed skills and the necessary communication skills to conduct education. The patient should be approached using a holistic approach so that nursing interventions are tailored to his or her wishes and needs.
