Aim: The aim of this paper was to present the correlation between oral and general health that has long been the subject of research. Many studies have shown that potential periodontitis is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Review: Oral infections and coronary heart disease are diseases that have a common cause at multiple points of contact. The most common form of periodontal disease is chronic and aggressive periodontitis. It mainly occurs in the elderly, but can also occur in children and adolescents. Today, it is well known that periodontitis is mainly caused by microorganisms. The inflammatory response of oral connective tissue caused by microorganisms leads to increased endothelial loosening, allowing bacteria to migrate into the perivascular space. The link between poor oral health and cardiovascular disease is that oral infections can cause inflammation, which can lead to cardiovascular disease. Today, it can be said with certainty that there is a connection between periodontal disease and the deposition of fatty deposits on the wall of arteries, which leads to the appearance of blood clots that cause atherosclerotic vascular disease. Bacteria in periodontitis are believed to enter the bloodstream through the space around the teeth, enter the arterial plaque, and worsen inflammation. In addition to microorganisms, other common risk factors, such as age, sex, smoking, drinking, and socioeconomic status, should be mentioned, but other possible factors for these diseases should not be forgotten. Summary: It is very important to emphasize that periodontal diseases are related to the vascular system, so it is necessary to properly maintain oral hygiene in order not to develop periodontal disease, and thus complications associated with the entire cardiovascular system
