Aims: The aim of the research was to investigate the frequency of anxiety of adolescents in the area of Vinkovci in relation to demographic characteristics and in relation to whether they suffer from physical or mental illness and an assessment of the financial condition of the family. Methods: The research was conducted on the principle of a cross-sectional study during August and September 2021. 171 respondents aged 18 to 20 years participated. The respondents are adult high school students in the area of Vinkovci. The research was anonymous and voluntary. It took 10 minutes to complete the survey. Results: In the total sample most of the respondents were female aged 18 and most of them attend the fourth grade of high school, live with their parents, are not in a relationship and live in the city. The research revealed significant differences in the incidence of anxiety in adolescents in the area of Vinkovci. A higher incidence of anxiety was observed in female respondents, respondents who suffer from mental illness and who assess the financial status of the family as mediocre. The level of anxiety is higher among female respondents who are not in a relationship and among respondents who suffer from mental illness and assess the family's financial situation as poor. Conclusion: Anxiety is one of the biggest public health problems and the incidence of anxiety in adolescents is continuously increasing. Timely recognition of symptoms and treatment of anxiety is extremely important because otherwise anxiety can result in the development of mental disorders in adulthood. The role of the nurse / technician is to recognize the symptoms, assess the level of the disorder and carry out interventions according to the assessment. Also, nurses / technicians have the role of counselors and educators who provide help and support to adolescents through the creation of a positive environment and communication.
