Objective: The aim of the study was both to investigate and determine in which group of students the knee pain is more frequent and what are the most frequent causes of knee pain. Study Design: This was a cross-sectional observational study conducted during February and March 2022. Respondents and methods: A questionnaire consisting of 16 questions was used in the study. The respondents were students at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health. The survey was sent to students of the Faculty by e-mails in order to facilitate the collection of data. The survey was filled out anonymously and it was necessary to set aside a few minutes for research purposes. The survey was completed by 149 respondents. Results: The overall results showed that more students are engaged in recreational activities than in professional sports activities. Knee pain is a common occurrence in both groups of students, and research has shown that the pain is more frequent in student-athletes. However, this difference is not confirmed by statistical significance. The research also found that the majority of students are not familiar with the cause of knee pain, while a significantly smaller number of students stated the cause of the pain. Conclusion: The knee pain occurs more often in students who play sports professionally than in those who do sports recreationally. The causes of pain in the knee were different, and the most common causes were injuries to the ligaments, meniscus, and muscle weakness. Regardless of the subject's age and gender, knee pain occurs more often in students who are intensively involved in sports.
