AIMS: To examine the opinion of nursing graduate students of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek, located in Sveta Nedelja, about the homeless. TYPE OF STUDY: A cross-sectional survey was conducted. METHODS ISSUED: The respondents consisted of 80 students of the University Graduate Study of Nursing, Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek, located in Sveta Nedelja. The data was collected by a Questionnaire on students' opinions about the homeless constructed for the purposes of this work. RESULTS: The majority of respondents were female (75 %), aged 30 and under (52,5 %), married or cohabiting (66,3 %), employed (95 %) and in the second year of a graduate nursing degree (66,3 %). The average age of the respondents was 32,15. The respondents had no personal experience with homelessness and rarely met homeless people. The majority of respondents agreed with the basic cognitions about homelessness, most did not provide services to the homeless through volunteering, but donated them. The majority agreed with the main causes of homelessness, expressed a neutral opinion about the homeless and positive intentions in providing assistance to the homeless. Most agreed that access to health services is difficult for homeless people, even though they are sicker compared to the general population and that they need to be placed in social institutions, even against their will. Certain opinions were associated with certain demographic characteristics of the respondents. Most believe that homelessness is a problem in their community, that this problem will increase in the next ten years, and that the state should provide more resources to solve the problem of homelessness. CONCLUSION: The majority of respondents are familiar with the causes of homelessness, have neutral opinions about the homeless and positive intentions in providing assistance to the homeless.
