Objective: This study aims to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of dental medicine students in Osijek regarding the complications of local anesthetics, including both systemic and local complications. Specific objectives include assessing knowledge about preparations, maximum doses, complications, and correlating attitudes towards the application and anaphylactic reactions with the level of study. Study Design: A cross-sectional study conducted at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health in Osijek. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted using a digital survey administered via Go-ogle Forms, distributed via social networks and email. The survey included 25 questions, and participation was voluntary and anonymous. Descriptive statistics and ANOVA analysis were used to assess differences in knowledge and attitudes among students, along with correlations and a significance level of 0.05. Statistical procedures were performed using JASP software. Results: The study involved 60 students, with an age range of 23 to 37 years. Variability in knowledge regarding maximum doses shows that 43 % correctly identify the dose for lidocaine, 31.67 % for articaine, and 33.33 % for mepivacaine. The majority of students (80 %) accurately recognize the toxic effects and the intramuscular application of adrenaline. All students inquire about patients' previous experiences, while 66.67 % ask about latex allergies. The analysis of variance shows significant differences in knowledge about complications (p = 0.377), while the correlation test revealed no significant association between knowledge and attitudes (p = 0.177). Conclusion: Dental medicine students demonstrate a comparable level of knowledge regarding the complications of local anesthetics, with adequate understanding of preparations and toxic effects. Throughout their studies, their awareness of maximum doses and complications continuously develops, contributing to a better understanding of safety protocols.
