Introduction: The growth and development of a child are closely related to bone fractures in childhood, so the knowledge of normal growth and development is crucial in the treatment of fractures and planning of surgical procedures in all types of bone fractures in children. Surgical treatment is becoming a trend in pediatric orthopedics, involving stabilization of the fracture by alignment without the use of plaster or splint, and within the fixation of the fracture performed by wires, plates, screws, or nails. Procedure: Secondary research used to collect data from the relevant professional and scientific literature. Overview: The anatomy and composition of bones in children differs from the bones of adults, so in children there are specific forms of fractures, healing mechanisms and ways of managing injuries and pain. The incidence of fractures peaks at the age of about 10 to 12 years in girls and about 13 to 15 years of boys, which coincides with a rush of growth, and the most common fractures are of the upper extremities. Fractures in children are treated conservatively and surgically. The nurse has the task of caring for the patient, assessing his condition, and adequately caring for the fracture. The orthopedic nurse is an expert in orthopedic conditions and works closely with the patient, his family, and the orthopedic team to ensure the patient’s smooth recovery with minimal complications and education of the patient and his family. Conclusion: The nurse has an important role in providing care to pediatric patients during recovery after surgical treatment of fractures. Nurses’ task is to assess the general condition of the patient and provide nursing care which requires general and specific knowledge and skills that help in achieving communication with the patient and his family and the best possible care.
