Abstract
Cilj: U ovom preglednom završnom radu detaljnije su prikazani sedacija dušikovim oksidulom, njezine prednosti i mane te uloga dentalnog higijeničara u tom postupku. Prikaz teme: Sedacija dušikovim oksidulom najčešća je metoda svjesne sedacije u dentalnoj medicini te je vrlo pogodna za opuštanje pacijenata koji imaju izražen strah od određenih dentalnih postupaka. Ona uključuje udisanje plina dušikova oksidula u kombinaciji s kisikom te na taj način djeluje na pacijenta tako da bude opušten i kooperativan tijekom liječenja. Brzo djelovanje uz pravilnu administraciju i monitoring omogućava brz oporavak nakon tretmana. Postoje i neke kontraindikacije za primjenu, kao što su trudnice u prvom tromjesečju trudnoće, ovisnici o drogama, pacijenti koji su nedavno imali kirurški zahvat oka ili uha i slično. Nuspojave su vrlo rijetke, a primjena je vrlo sigurna. Zaključak: Sedacija dušikovim oksidulom vrlo je koristan i siguran postupak za sve pacijente, posebice one anksiozne, koji imaju izražen strah od dentalnih zahvata, no njezina je upotreba u Hrvatskoj, nažalost, i dalje u zaostatku za državama SAD-a, gdje je to svakodnevni zahvat.
Abstract (english)
Aim: The present review paper presents in detail the topic of nitric oxide sedation, its advantages and disadvantages as well as the role of the dental hygienist in the process. Review: Nitric oxide sedation is the most commonly used method of conscious sedation in dental medicine and is especially suitable for relaxation in patients who have great fear of certain dental procedures. The sedation consists of breathing the nitric oxide gas in combination with oxygen, making the patient more relaxed and cooperative during the procedure. When properly administered and monitored, this fast-acting sedative enables swift recovery after the treatment. There are certain contraindications for its application as for pregnant women in the first trimester, drug addicts, patients who have recently had surgical procedures around the eyes, ears or similar. Side-effects are rare and the procedure is quite safe. Summary: In conclusion, nitric oxide sedation is a very useful and safe procedure for all patients, especially for the anxious patients who have great fear of dental procedures. However, this type of sedation is still not being utilized in Croatia as much as in the USA, where it is a common, everyday procedure.
