THE RESEARCH AIM: To determine the knowledge and attitudes of nursing students about cosmetic surgery. STUDY DRAFT: A cross-sectional study with a convenience sample. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Nursing students at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek participated in the research on the attitudes of nursing students towards cosmetic surgery, which was carried out using the "Awareness and Attitude of Health Workers towards Cosmetic Surgery" questionnaire, available for free use. RESULTS: The survey on knowledge and attitudes about cosmetic surgery included 41 respondents, of which 6 (14.6%) were men and 35 (85.4%) were women aged 20 to >50 years. As many as 82.9% are familiar with cosmetic surgery, 90.2% of the respondents answered affirmatively regarding their knowledge of the risks associated with cosmetic surgery, 48.8% of the respondents would have a cosmetic procedure done in Croatia, while 73.2% of respondents would recommend a cosmetic surgery to one of their close relatives and/ or friends. Cosmetic surgery is considered socially acceptable in Croatia by 58.5% of the respondents. CONCLUSION: The predictor variables: gender, age, marital status and living environment had a statistically significant contribution to the answers to six out of seventeen questions concerning knowledge and attitudes about cosmetic surgery, more specifically – about the need for aesthetic procedures in general, about going to an aesthetic procedure when it would be free, changing people's opinion about them if they undergo cosmetic surgery, the social acceptability of cosmetic surgery in Croatia and part of society in which cosmetic surgery is more acceptable, and the implementation of more programs for raising awareness about cosmetic surgery.
