Introduction: Falls are a serious and common problem faced by the elderly population. The Republic of Croatia occupies a place in the group of countries with a significant increase in the number of elderly people. The falls have a negative effect on the quality of life of the injured, as well as huge economic and financial consequences for society. Procedures: Data for writing a dissertation were collected by searching online databases such as Cochrane, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. Also, the literature of the library of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health Osijek was used. Topic: The fall of an elderly person can often lead to injuries, immobility, reduced quality of life, hospitalization, the occurrence of psychosocial trauma, fear of falling, and increased anxiety. Since the interaction of internal and external risk factors is responsible for the occurrence of a fall, the prevention of falls refers to their modification or removal. As part of the physiotherapy assessment, the physiotherapist together with the patient identifies the problem and plans a physiotherapy process aimed at maintaining functional ability and improving the quality of life of the elderly person. The focus is on developing strength, balance and a safe gait pattern so that the older person can move without fear. Conclusion: The main goal of implementing fall prevention in the elderly is to adapt or eliminate the predisposing factors that contribute to the fall and to learn and adopt protective strategies. In order for the patient to maintain functional independence for as long as possible and reduce the possibility of falls, the physiotherapist should pay special attention to providing support and educating the person on the practice of positive health behavior. People who stay active in old age find it easier to tolerate the changes that occur in the system for controlling and maintaining balance.
