Introduction: Bruxism is defined as violent chewing or clenching of the teeth or a combination of clenching and chewing and is a disorder that must be treated. It is also defined as parafunctional clenching of teeth and oral habit consisting of involuntary rhythmic or convulsive non-functional gnashing, clenching or grinding of teeth, rhythmical movements of the lower jaw in the form of chewing/ grinding movements that lead to occlusal trauma. Procedure: One third of the literature is in the period from 2016 to 2021, while most of the other literature is not older than 10 years. Databases on which the literature was searched: PubMed, Science Direct, Hrĉak and Dabar. Overview: Bruxism is a dysfunctional movement of the jaw and it is an important etiological factor that causes and /or accelerates tooth wear. Due to the existence of various etiological factors, in order to cure bruxism, it is important that there is a multidisciplinary approach through which combinations of behavioural, pharmacological or some other type of oriental therapy approaches are included. When diagnosing bruxism, clinical diagnostics based on symptoms and signs and complementary methods - polysomnography and electromyography are used. The dental hygienist plays a very important role in patients with bruxism. It educates the patient and alleviates his fear. Conclusion: Due to the appearance of various etiological factors, bruxism is treated through a multidisciplinary approach that includes combinations of behavioural, pharmacological and orthodontic therapeutic approaches. Bruxism has a negative impact on the patient's quality of life, so it is important to recognize and treat it as soon as possible
