Objective: The aim of this research was to examine the concern of patients during their hospitalization due to the COVID-19 pandemic in correlation to sociodemographic data. Study outline: The research was conducted as a cross-section. Respondents and methods: The respondents are people over 18 years of age who are hospitalized for emergency or planned surgery at the Clinical Hospital Center Osijek at the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology. The data were collected by an anonymous questionnaire, which the patients individually completed and answered. Results: Women are more significantly concerned about the possibility of contracting the virus and their own mental health in the hospital during a COVID-19 pandemic then men. Older respondents are more concerned about the mental state of their family in case of their infection in the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic and the inability to contact vulnerable family members for a long time in case of infection, unlike younger respondents. There are no significant differences in respondents concern regarding education level and marital status. Urgently operated respondents are more concerned about the possibility of infection and their own mental health in the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic than the respondents who are scheduled for surgery. Conclusion: Women are more concerned about the possibility of contracting the virus and their own mental health in the hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic. Older respondents are significantly concerned about the mental state of their family in case of infection in the hospital and the inability to contact vulnerable family members for a long time. Urgently operated respondents are more concerned about the possibility of infection and their own mental health in the hospital during the pandemic. There are no significant differences in respondents concern regarding education level and marital status.
