AIM OF STUDY: To determine the level of nomophobia in young people. STADY DRAFT: cross-sectional study. RESPONDENTS AND METHODS: In a study of potential nomophobia in young people, 105 adolescents were examined. The questionnaire consisted of two parts. The first part of the questionnaire refers to the demographic data of examinees: gender, age, education, grade in the previous school year and time spent on a mobile phone. The second part of the questionnaire refers to the nomophobia scale, created by Yildirim, which is free to use (33). The questionnaire consists of 20 items in which examinees were required to circle the level of agreement on a Likert scale from 1, which meant I completely disagree with the statement, to 7, which meant I completely agree with the statement. The total result of nomophobia is the sum of all subscale responses. The Cronbach’s alpha scale of nomophobia is 0.928. RESULTS: In the examined group, it is evident that one examinee hasn’t got nomophobia (0.9%), while 48 (42.9%) examinees have moderate nomophobia. It is evident that there is a significant difference in the level of nomophobia according to the age of the examinees (H = 7.761; P = 0.02), examinees who are 19 years old show a higher level of nomophobia. Significant negative predictors of nomophobia were time spent on mobile phones less than 1 hour (P <0.001), 1 - 3 hours (P <0.001) and 4 - 6 hours (P = 0.004). CONCLUSION: The most significant predictors of nomophobia are age and the time spent daily on a smartphone. Examinees showed moderate levels of nomophobia.
