OBJECTIVES: The aim of the final paper is to show the specifics of the nurse's scope of work in group therapy. CASE: A 64-year-old patient is admitted for the first time to the Day Hospital of the Institute for Psychological Medicine - Regional Center for Psychotrauma due to deterioration of her mental state under the medical diagnosis F41.2 (Mixed anxiety and depressive disorder). For the last three years, and especially for the last six months, she feels exhausted, tired, lethargic and disinterested. During the night, she cannot sleep, wakes up frequently, turns over in bed, has difficulty falling back asleep, and feels tired during the day. On the first day of group therapy, the patient begins to feel uncomfortable and wonders what she is doing between them and looks for a reason to quit. In the second week of her stay in the group, the patient slowly begins to open up and participate in conversations, becomes more relaxed, gets to know the other members of the group and realizes that they have similar problems. During all four weeks of her stay in the day hospital, she did not miss a single time, she came to therapy every day by taxi, but at the end of the fourth week she decided to try walking home. CONCLUSION: Depressive and anxiety disorders are common and recurrent mental disorders that occur in an extremely large number of people around the world. Due to their clinical characteristics, they affect psychosocial functions, reducing the quality of patients’ life. Anxiety-depressive disorder can be treated with group therapy, which is an affordable and effective form of treatment in which a small group of participants and one or more nurses meet to communicate and discuss a variety of topics.
