Introduction: The glenohumeral joint is characterized by a high degree of mobility, making it the most susceptible to dislocation in the body. After an initial dislocation, the joint becomes less stable, damaging the structures that form it. Habitual, recurrent dislocations of the shoulder occur much more easily than primary injuries, often as a result of minor trauma or sudden arm movements, especially in young active individuals. The incidence of recurrent shoulder dislocations varies but can be high, exceeding 50% after the first dislocation. Recurrent dislocations further impair shoulder function, affecting the quality of life of patients, especially in sports and social activities. Methods: A total of 14 scientific studies and one specialized book have been explored, all closely related to the biomechanical aspect of habitual shoulder dislocation, anatomy, and pathology related to the topic, as well as possible approaches to its resolution. Topic Overview: Habitual shoulder dislocations represent a complex problem due to significant variations among individuals, requiring thorough research into specific anatomical features and pathological changes that cause this condition to provide a better response. Conclusion: Treatment options for recurrent shoulder dislocations include surgical and conservative approaches. Surgical methods are recommended for young, highly active patients after the first dislocation due to the high risk of recurrence because, for now, the effectiveness of conservative treatments remains uncertain, with limited evidence-based exercise programs available for this patient group. Recent studies are investigating neuromuscular exercises to improve shoulder stability and proprioception, which could be crucial for preventing recurrent dislocations in the future. However, such programs require further research.
