Aims: To investigate the presence and level of burnout syndrome in the nursing staff at Clinical Medical Centre Osijek during the COVID-19 pandemic and to establish the level of burnout syndrome in relation to participants' gender, age, education degree, years of service, particular working place, department, and shift work. Participants and methods: 110 nurses and healthcare technicians employed at Clinical Medical Centre Osijek at Department of Internal Medicine and Department of Nephrology took part in the research. The participants were asked to fill out the Maslach Burnout Inventory, to answer a series of questions concerning their socio-demographic data, and to answer questions about the COVID-19 disease. The research was carried out in January and February of the year 2021. Results: According to the scores for depersonalization scale, 43 (39 %) participants showed low levels of burnout, 39 (36 %) showed medium levels of burnout and 28 (25 %) showed high levels of burnout. According to the scores for emotional exhaustion scale, 17 (16 %) participants showed low levels of burnout, 37 (35 %) showed medium levels of burnout and 53 (49 %) showed high levels of burnout. According to the scores of personal accomplishment scale, 25 (23 %) subjects showed low levels of burnout, 36 (33 %) showed medium levels of burnout 49 (44 %) showed high levels of burnout. Finally, the results have shown that there are no statistically significant differences of burnout levels in nurses and healthcare technicians in relation to gender, age, education degree, years of service in nursing, the kind of working place and department they work at, or working hours of the current working place. Conclusion: There is no significant difference in all three component scales of Maslach Burnout Inventory in regard to variables that werw tested.
