The aim of the research: to examine the level of knowledge of the general population about wound care with regard to gender, level of education, experience and the way of information about wound care. Study design: cross-sectional study Respondents and methods: the general population participated in the research. The survey questionnaire consisted of 12 demographic and subject-specific questions. The data was collected through an anonymous online survey compiled in Google forms. Results: A total of 322 respondents participated in the research, of which 98% were women, most of whom had a secondary education (61.8%). The examined knowledge of the general population about wound care is medium, with the mean value of the total sum of correct answers regarding knowledge about wound care being Me = 64 correct answers. A significant difference in knowledge is found in respondents with a higher level of education (H (3) = 9.322, P = 0.02). There are no significant differences in knowledge according to gender, experience in wound care, or source of information. However, respondents with a higher education have significantly better knowledge than those with a secondary education. Conclusion: The general population shows intermediate knowledge of wound care. It is necessary to organize free and publicly available public educations in order to raise the level of knowledge about wound care, which in the long term aims to reduce wound healing complications.
