INTRODUCTION: Injuries represent and important medical, public health and socioeconomic problem. The most common injuries in the world and in Croatia are craniocerebral injuries. Craniocerebral injuries encompass skull and brain injuries. The brain is the highest part of the central nervous system and it is divided morphologically into cerebrum, cerebellum and the brainstem. PROCEDURES: Data used in writing this review paper was obtained by synthesizing data from the professional literature from the following scientific databases: Pubmed, HRČAK, PeDro, Google Scholar, EBASCO and Cochrane Croatia. TOPIC VIEW: Traumatic brain injury can cause a permanent or temporary impairment of brain function. A common cause are traffic accidents. Clinically, the most significant division is according to the severity of injury, which categorizes injuries as mild, moderate and severe. Clinical presentation depends on several factors, and it varies according to the severity of injury. Symptoms are divided into cognitive, sensory and physical. Treatment includes the provision of emergency medical care, acute hospital treatment, and if it is necessary, rehabilitation. Rehabilitation includes physiotherapy. Physiotherapy approach in patients with traumatic brain injury should be individual and problem oriented. Physiotherapy process consists of physiotherapy assessments and interventions. CONCLUSION: Physiotherapy approach to patients should be holistic, because it can lead to a better treatment outcome for patients with traumatic brain injury. Physiotherapy interventions which can be implemented are numerous. Among them, physiotherapy interventions which use new technologies, like virtual reality, Biofeedback and robotic neurorehabilitation are the ones with the greatest future potential for development and wider application.
