Objective: This paper aims to present the specifics of health care of a patient suffering from a broken heart syndrome after the death of her husband. Case: The patient’s husband died two days before her admission. Since then, she had been feeling a burning sensation in her chest, which became stronger and stronger, so the patient came to the emergency room. As a result, she was admitted the Intensive Care Unit of Department of Cardiac Surgery in Osijek. She was given a treatment for acute coronary syndrome. The patient showed symptoms of sadness and grief while lying down, accompanied by crying and questions related to going home. She was afraid of her reaction upon returning home. The constant presence of a nurse/technician and the willingness to talk were of great help to the patient. All interventions and procedures performed, as well as nurse/technician’s involvement in the process were documented and an assessment of what was had occurred was made. When necessary, other members of the medical team who were caring for the patient were involved in meeting her needs. At discharge, the patient was given all the necessary instructions for continuing the treatment at home, on which the further course of her recovery will depend. Conclusion: The medical care of a patient with symptoms of a broken heart requires a nurse/technician to have a high level of expertise and strong communication skills, on which the success of the treatment and the duration of the patient’s recovery depend.
