Objective: To examine the information and preparedness of patients for echocardiography in relation to age, gender, education, level and type of examination Study design: A cross-sectional study Subjects and methods: Patients who come for echocardiography through the clinic and the Clinical Departments of KBC Osijek participated in the research. A survey questionnaire was developed for the purpose of this study and it was used as an instrument of research on the information and preparedness of patients for echocardiography. The questionnaire is composed of six questions, of which the sixth question consists of 16 sub statements that the patient confirms (participants mark numbers from 1 to 5, 1 meaning I do not agree, 5 meaning I completely agree). Results: 106 respondents participated in the research, 52 (49%) of which were men and 54 (51%) were women. The median age was 58 years. Out of a total of 106 respondents, 51% of them had already had 1-3 echocardiographic examinations. The majority of respondents, 83 (78%) of them, were informed through conversation. The level of information among younger respondents, as well as among respondents with a higher level of education, is higher. Respondents who underwent TEE more significantly fully agree with the statement that they were informed not to eat or drink on the day of the examination, unlike those respondents who did not undergo TTE. Respondents who underwent a TEE examination state that they are more satisfied with the approach, knowledge and professionalism of the nurse/technician, in contrast to those who performed TTE. Conclusion: The results of the conducted research show that the respondents were well informed and prepared for the examinations. Younger and more educated respondents are more prepared for the tests and are more interested in the method of the test and the way it is performed. Respondents who performed TEE are more satisfied with preparation and information than those who did not perform TTE.
