Objectives: The aims of this research are to examine nurses' awareness of the importance of colorectal cancer screening and to examine nurses' awareness of the importance of colorectal cancer screening in relation to their age, gender, level of education and workplace. Study design: A cross-sectional study. Participants and Methods: Respondents were nurses employed at Clinical Hospital Center Osijek, Clinic for Internal Diseases and Clinic for Surgery. A questionnaire created for the purposes of this research was used. Results: The research showed high level of awareness regarding risks, prevention, treatment and follow-up of colorectal cancer (CRC) among the respondents. Respondents with higher education were less determined about future educational programs (P = 0.05). Respondents e employed at Clinic for Internal Diseases showed better understanding of the importance of colonoscopy (P = 0.005) and education about CRC screening (P = 0.04) and expressed greater desire for further education (P = 0.03) compared to respondents working at Clinic for Surgery. Female respondents were more familiar with genetic risks, and male respondents with obesity as a risk factor. There were no significant gender differences regarding awareness of CRC treatment. Conclusion: The research showed high level of awareness of prevention and treatment of CRC among nurses. Respondents from Clinic for Internal Diseases recognized the importance of education and colonoscopy. Female respondents emphasized the importance of continuous education, while respondents with higher education were less willing to participate in educational programs. Older respondents better recognized the risks associated with diet, while there was no significant difference in awareness of CRC treatment, monitoring and prevention among all age groups.
